Ethiopia - September/October 2008 - Dr. John Friel, CUMV Curator of Fishes, spent six weeks surveying the fish fauna in the Baro and Tekeze basins along with Dr. John Sullivan of the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences, and Mr. Tesfaye Melak of Addis Ababa University.
Tanzania - September/October 2007 - Dr. John Friel, CUMV Curator of Fishes, spent six weeks surveying the fish fauna in the Umba, Pangani, Wami, Ruvu and Ruaha/Rifiji River basins along with Mr. Thomas Vigliotta of Cornell University, Mr. Alfred Thomson of the Florida Museum of Natural History and Mr. Samwel Limbu of the University of Dar es Salaam.
Central African Republic - February/March 2006 - Dr. John Friel, CUMV Curator of Fishes, spent four weeks surveying the fish fauna in the Oubangui and Chari River basins along with Mr. Roger Bills of the South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity and Mr. Duncan Reid.
Zambia - September/October 2005 - Dr. John Friel, CUMV Curator of Fishes, spent four weeks surveying the fish fauna in northern Zambia around Lakes Bangweulu and Mweru and the Luapula River along with Mr. Roger Bills of the South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity and Mr. Alex Chilala of the Zambian Dept. of Fisheries.
Tanzania - September/October 2004 - Dr. John Friel, CUMV Curator of Fishes, spent several weeks surveying the fish fauna within in the Malagarasi basin in Tanzania. Fishes collected during this study are currently being sorted and identified.
Cameroon - January/February 2004 - Dr. John Friel, CUMV Curator of Fishes, along with Dr. John Sullivan of Cornell University spent several weeks surveying the fish fauna within in the Sanaga, Lokundjé and Lobé basins of Cameroon.
Republic of Congo - August/September 2002 - Dr. John Friel, CUMV Curator of Fishes, along with Dr. John Sullivan of Cornell University spent several weeks surveying the fish fauna within Odzala National Park.
